Cottages at Cold Storage Beach Late Spring by Donna Mignella
Being outdoors on a Summer Day’s in New England is a favorite pastime, and I am fortunate to live on the coast of Jamestown, Rhode Island where I have the pleasure of filling my senses each season. A pivotal experience with the ocean and bay beaches with their beautiful surrounding sand dunes came with my introduction to art classes with Hilda Neily at The Cape School of Art in Provincetown, Massachusetts and has continued every Summer for more than five years. At first, I felt very awkward learning the art of seeing and painting color and light; while at the same time, I was compelled to pursue and develop my understanding and skills. The practice is lifelong and always different. It is an intimate experience and meditative for me.
Painting landscapes as well as seascapes is what I enjoy doing en plein air in Jamestown, Rhode Island and at the Outer Cape in Massachusetts. My art studies are primarily with with Hilda Neily; but, I have also have taken classes with other master art teachers at the school including John Clayton, Judith Fulmer and Glenna Hartwell. I am a current member of The Cape School of Art as well as The Cape School of Art Open Studio, Provincetown Art Association Museum, Jamestown Art Center and Conanicut Island Art Association.
